Taking a break after graduating from high school or university, before you start a 9-to-5 job, is becoming more and more popular. What’s more, another rising trend is that of taking an adult gap year – some time off from your career or in-between jobs.
There are, of course, many different options available to you for your gap year – just like teaching English abroad.
Teaching English abroad is a fantastic idea for your gap year for many reasons. It offers you the chance to travel and see the world while earning money. Plus, teaching English as a foreign language gives you skills which are transferable to other careers, such as time management, public speaking, and possibly even learning a foreign language.
If you don’t have the opportunity to take 12 months off for your gap year, you should consider short-term teaching positions, such as in a summer camp, at a language centre, or teaching a semester at a university.
